A Chance at Equality

Equality

When you see the differentiation in your own house, it gets really difficult to block the noise somewhere else, isn’t it? These actions of the patriarchal society every day you are subjected to are a scheme to shut you up in the longer run and to bring it to normalcy. Do you feel now is the time you need to voice your opinion to stop it once in for all?

I am not saying that fake feminism is the answer. If at all, it is jeopardizing our society all the more. But we need to bring it to society’s attention, the hassle we go through on an everyday basis. Do you think we like getting touched all over our body in public by a creep, hell no!

I am not saying women are weak, actually, I feel women are the strongest beings I came across in my life. Fortunately, I am raised by strong women and I was always surrounded by strong women. I am acknowledging the existence of weak women as well though, who are hell-bent on pulling women down, by not supporting each other but point each other’s flaws, tagging themselves as “I am not like other women, I am different.” Well, I am glad at least those women are not like you, they are way better. God bless them all and save them from you.

Then there come pseudo-intellects who think they are the feminists and run around with the flag but secretly after congratulating a female colleague on her promotion, they will be the same people who will bitch about her behind her back by saying “Oh, she was sleeping with the boss, that’s the only logical answer to this.”

That remark we grow up with, please keep that extra chocolate for your brother, or that extra roti is for your brother, you take the rice serving; we can’t send you to college; we can save money for your brother’s college; make you averse to the belief that anything will change. It scars your mind and let you believe that you are not good enough and things are supposed to be like this. You start accepting the situation and you implement it in your life. Then one day, you will be the one taking the patriarchal baton to the next generation. This is how the foundation of our society has come into existence.

It has to stop now. You are the society, you will be responsible for the world your future generation will live in. And as they say, charity begins at home, please take those small steps. I know so many people who have a good conscience and want to do good for society, but sometimes knowingly or unknowingly, they fall short. It is something deeply rooted in our society and it will take a really long time to bring about the actual change I am talking about but I believe, as a society, we have the power to change the world. One step at a time.

So next time if one of your female colleagues gets a promotion, I urge you all to not dismiss her credibility just because she is a woman, but instead try to understand where she is coming from and what did she achieve to deserve this. When you have all the facts, then by all means, come to a fair conclusion. When a woman is putting forth her opinions, don’t just dismiss them because it is coming from a woman, actually hear them, understand them, and if you feel it is still not worth then dismiss them.

I just want women to have a chance at equality and I want women should not have to fight harder than men to achieve the same thing but equally harder. Because our struggle starts from here and we are hustlers, we are not afraid to fight, we just need those tiny chances at equality.
